Using GAIS EQS Queries

GAIS provides EQS generators and tests for actors, squads, and formation slots. You can use them in independent project queries or feed results to Tactical Assignment. EQS does not choose commands or implement movement for your project.

What to check

GAIS: Squad Actors

Hosts of squads registered with SquadSubsystem.

bIncludeQuerierSquad controls whether the querying squad is included.

GAIS: Player Pawns

Pawns possessed by player controllers in the query world.

Unpossessed pawns are not returned.

GAIS: Squad Member Actors

Resolved members of the querier's squad or an explicit squad.

RequiredRoleTag applies an exact role filter; check querier and squad resolution.

GAIS: Hostile Squad Member Actors

Resolved hostile squad members for the querying squad host.

Check squad registration and team attitude.

GAIS: Formation Slots

FormationComponent slot locations with slot identity.

Set FormationActorContext, SlotTagQuery, and the weight range; ensure the context resolves a valid formation.

Companion project example: Open /Game/GenericDemo/GAIS/Squads/EQ_NearByHostileSquad. The GAIS Squad Actors generator is followed by distance, path, team-attitude, and squad-unit-count tests. The team-attitude test checks Context toward Item for Hostile. Configure filtering and scoring to suit your own project.

Configure and Verify

  1. Create an Environment Query asset and choose a generator for the candidate type you need. Configure its query context and filters.
  2. For actor items, GAIS: Team Attitude can filter or score the attitude from context to item or in the reverse direction; GAIS: Squad Unit Count filters or scores by roster size. For formation slot items, GAIS: Formation Slot Weight filters or scores by slot weight.
  3. Run the query in the target level with the actual querier and inspect candidate counts, positions, and filtering. If results are empty, check the querier, context, team attitude, squad registration, tags, weight range, and query execution.
  4. To allocate work automatically, reference the query asset from a Tactical Assignment Source on the StateTree task. Actor assignee and target sources require Actor items; a Location target source requires Vector items. A type mismatch or an empty runtime query gives that source no candidates for the current evaluation; other sources continue to contribute.

A Formation Slot EQS item retains slot identity and position. A consumer that reads only the location cannot assume that identity is retained. For the complete workflow and capacity rules, see Configure a Tactical Assignment Plan and Tactical Assignment Reference.
