Plugin and companion project

The Generic Inventory System plugin is code-only and contains no plugin Content. The companion project supplied after purchase verification contains project-level examples, UI, and a demo map; installing the plugin alone does not add these assets. Contents depend on the product and version obtained.

Where to start

In a project containing companion content, open /Game/GenericDemo/GIS/Levels/GIS_Demo, then explore the directories relevant to your work:

Directory

What to inspect

/Game/GenericGame/InventorySystem/Core

Core project assets and filters.

/Game/GenericGame/InventorySystem/Extras

Collection, currency, vendor, pickup, UI, and interaction examples.

/Game/GenericGame/CommonSystem

Shared project-level GGS UI, interaction, and other content.

/Game/GenericDemo/GIS/Collections

Normal, multi-stack, and equipment-slot collections.

/Game/GenericDemo/GIS/Pickups

Item, inventory, and currency pickup Actor examples.

/Game/GenericDemo/GIS/Save

Example save manager and SaveGame.

The inventory and shop menus and WB_GIS_ItemStackContainer are under InventorySystem/Extras/UI; BP_GIS_Vendor and GA_GIS_Interaction_Vendor are under Extras/Vendor. The project also contains UICtx_Crafting, but crafting remains in development and has not been fully validated; this asset is not evidence of a complete crafting demo.

Migration and verification

  1. Inspect references and dependencies, then use Unreal's migration tool for the assets you need. Project examples can depend on GGS, CommonUI, GameplayAbilities, Smart Objects, or project configuration; enable and verify the actual dependencies.
  2. Merge the necessary Gameplay Tags, project settings, and input configuration without overwriting the destination configuration. See Preparation and Migration.
  3. Test inventory initialization, interaction, UI, saving, and multiplayer in the target project. Copy examples before customizing them so future updates can be compared.
