FAQ

These are the stalls that show up first during integration. Mechanism detail still lives on the matching how-to and core-feature pages.

GCS components do not appear in Blueprint?

Confirm GenericCombatSystem is enabled, the project compiled, then restart the editor and search again. The classes are UGCS_CombatSystemComponent, UGCS_TraceSystemComponent, UGCS_BulletSystemComponent, UGCS_TargetingSystemComponent, and UGCS_CombatTeamAgentComponent. Use Get / Find to confirm which actor owns them. Steps: Attach Combat Components.

The attack animation plays, but there is no hit or Attack Result?

Split melee and ranged. Melee: Trace component present, Collision Trace Task called AddMeleeRequest, GCS_ANS_AttackTrace only stored a request, sweep channel matches. Ranged: event OptionalObject is UGCS_AttackRequest_Bullet, and the server confirmed an Entry. A trail with no GE is often a predicted bullet. Order: Debugging and Troubleshooting.

The Gameplay Effect has no attack context?

Before you apply the GE, use UGCS_CombatFunctionLibrary to write the attack-definition handle into the Effect Context, then write FGCS_ContextPayload_Combat when you need magnitudes or dynamic tags. Ability System Globals must be UGGA_AbilitySystemGlobals, or Combat Flow cannot read the GCS payload. Confirm with the Debugger Attack Result section or Get Attack Definition Handle.

Client presentation and server results disagree in multiplayer?

Check whether the server produced an authoritative Attack Result or a confirmed bullet Entry. After the server is correct, inspect AutonomousProxy prediction matching: when the replicated result shares the same PredictionKey, LocalPredicted processors should not run again. Predicted bullets are trail-only; client FX is not an authoritative hit.

I already bought GIPS or GGA. Do I buy them again?

The GenericCombatSystem Fab product delivers Generic Input System, Generic Gameplay Abilities, and GCS together. Input buffering belongs to the GIPS that ships with the product. It is not a .uplugin dependency of this plugin. GIPS / GGA obtained with this product do not need a second purchase to enable GCS.

Do I have to use a specific character base class?

No. GCS does not require a particular Character parent. Implement IGCS_CombatEntityInterface on the pawn or a component and attach the combat components you need. If the Debugger Shared section shows the interface, lookup is working.

I added a Death Processor. Why is the character still alive?

UGCS_AttackResultProcessor_Death is a native no-op. The first run only logs a Warning. Disable collision, ragdoll, or destroy the actor in a project override of HandleIncomingAttackResult, or call the entity's StartDeath / FinishDeath.

Where did the combat settings class go?

The current class is UGCS_DeveloperSettings (Generic Combat System Developer Settings in Project Settings). The old name is covered by a config ClassRedirect. New code and docs use the current name only. The affiliation debug switch is bDisableAffiliationCheck on that object.

Is there a companion project?

Yes. The plugin package itself has no Content. A companion project is provided separately after purchase. Open /Game/GenericDemo/GCS in the Content Browser and load GCS_Demo to compare melee, ranged, targeting, and combos. Walkthrough: Observe GCS in the Companion Project.

What kind of asset is an Ability Action Set?

UGCS_AbilityActionSetSettings is a DataAsset that selects a set of ability actions by tag. It is not Developer Settings and should not be authored as a plain UObject config.
